Who we are

The Libertarian Organization was founded on January 14th 2025, and is a membership organization advocating for a free society founded on individual and property rights.

We promote socializing, cooperation, and learning amongst individuals and organizations who share our goals. The organization welcomes all members aged 18 and over, regardless of where they live.

Our history

A new law came into effect on May 1st 2024, effectively barring minor political parties from the parliamentary election. Earlier, a party would qualify if they met a certain number of votes in an electoral district – making it possible for parties with strong regional support to run for parliament. Now, a party must meet a substantially higher number of votes on a national level. As The Capitalist party didn’t meet the threshold by a narrow margin during the last election, they would have to collect signatures from 1 % of the population eligible to vote if they wanted to run again.

This Sisyphean task would exhaust the party, who would not only have to compete for votes during elections but signatures in-between. Hence, during an extraordinary national convention, the party voted to disband.

The Oslo chapter supported the disbandment, but didn’t believe that libertarianism should die with it. During the fall of 2024, the local leadership made plans to found an organization that could be a nexus for libertarian activities, and on January 14th The Libertarian Organization was founded.
